A Day in the Park (Rocky Mtn Natl Park, that is)
Foul weather was no deterrent to fun for this group of kids. Despite temps in the 40s and increasingly wet weather, they fished the upper reaches of the Big Thompson River, played camouflage and hide and seek in Moraine Park, then watched elk and listened to them bugle at dusk. Although we had to pitch a tarp to stay dry, the kids kept going as long as the supply of hot chocolate, cider, toasted marshmallows and burritos held out. The only regret most of them expressed was that we weren't staying overnight. Next year we will.
Fall is one of the best times to enjoy the meadows and streams of Rocky Mountain National Park. On this all-day day trip, we will hike, play and fish in beautiful Moraine Park in the afternoon, and enjoy a picnic dinner at dusk while listening to the bugling of majestic elk.
